Why patients are finding clinics through ChatGPT — and how to be the answer

A prospective patient used to open Google, scroll a page of results, and compare a few clinics. Today, a growing share of them open ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google's AI overview and ask a question in plain language: "Where's the best place near me for morpheus8?" or "Which clinic is good for first-time Botox?" They read one synthesized answer — and often act on it.

That shifts the game. In classic search you competed for a ranked list. In AI search you compete to be cited inside a single recommendation. If the model doesn't have a clear, current, well-structured picture of your clinic, you're simply not in the answer — no matter how good your care is.

Three things decide whether AI recommends you:

  1. Consistency. Your name, services, hours, and location have to match everywhere the model looks — your site, your Google Business Profile, directories, and reviews. Conflicting information makes a model hedge, and hedging means it names someone else.

  2. Freshness and reviews. Recent, specific, positive reviews are strong signals. So is content that answers the exact questions patients ask, in the words they use.

  3. Citation-ready content. Models favor pages that state facts plainly: what a treatment is, who it's for, what it costs, what recovery looks like. Marketing fluff doesn't get cited; clear answers do.

This is where SkinTwin's Discover layer comes in. It audits how you currently appear across AI search, finds the gaps and contradictions pulling you out of answers, rebuilds your presence, and publishes citation-ready content — then tracks your visibility week over week so you can see it improve.

Being the clinic AI recommends isn't luck. It's a maintained state. Start by auditing what the AI says about you today — then close the gap.
